Cascadia Camp: Call for Interest & Volunteers

We had a great DWebYVR planning meeting in early February, and it's clear that there is interest in doing a camp-style event this year for our region. So we're putting out a call for interest, co-organizers, volunteers, and any other assistance and collaboration you'd like to bring.
What kind of DWeb Camp is this?
Since there won't be a "big DWeb camp" in the California redwoods this year, we're thinking about what kind of camp this is.
Our ambitions are to have between 40 - 80 people gather in a "camp" setting. This will likely be more outdoor camping. Some of the potential venues don't have power or Internet or kitchens.
In the longterm, we'd love to have access to land that we can come back to over time, improving mesh networks, solar & battery power, sheds, and other amenities over time.
The time span would roughly be arrive on a Thursday, leave the following Sunday afternoon, and the dates in the interest form linked below reflect that. If you're part of the camp operations crew, we'd need you for setup and a teardown day before and after, so arrive Tuesday or Wednesday, leave late Monday or early Tuesday.
Here is what we are thinking:
- we'll have a local network (that we'd need to put together ourselves)
- we'll have power (with some combination of solar, generator, battery, etc)
- we'll have three meals per day that we'd cook and eat together
- we might have a silent disco, and certainly guitar strumming and other musics
- we'll share, learn, experiment, and build together, using our existing DWeb Principles as a basis for what we do
- we'll be connecting with one another and with nature
Hopeful Pricing
The pricing will include food and events over 4 days / 4 nights. Until we secure a venue, we won't be able to provide complete pricing options which may include tent rentals or other accommodations. For getting to camp, we're looking at a mix of car pool and bus options. We'll need to pay for food, supplies, and part-time organizing crew to pull this off.
The pricing is listed as "hopeful", because we really don't know what pricing would be like. Hopefully there will be people interested in sponsoring the event to lower camp costs cost.
On a side note, we are exploring venue options where we could use, improve, and potentially lease or otherwise co-own some land over time. The land could also be used throughout the year on a shared basis. That component of the survey is completely optional and be assured that it would be separate from camp costs.
Call for Interest
Please fill out the call for interest. We need your availability: which of the weekends in July or August work for you?
Also! Please fill out the feedback with any ideas or wishes you have for an event like this!
