DWebYVR reading group first meeting

Thank you to everyone who voted on the first reading for our reading group!
Tldr: Our first reading for November 12th is Jo Freeman's The Tyranny of Structurelessness. It is a short essay which you can read for free here:

The choice with the most votes was Designing an Internet by
David D. Clark. Close behind, with just one fewer vote, was Jo Freeman's The Tyranny of Structurelessness.
Now, I know we said that simply the reading with the most votes would be our first reading. However, due to a regrettable lack of foresight on my part (a lack that was pretty much immediately noticed by some astute readers), there are a few challenges with reading a book like Designing an Internet until our first meeting.
For one, the book has 432 fairly technical pages. Our first meeting is set for November 12 (register here), in almost exactly a month. While perhaps doable, reading the whole book for our first meeting would likely greatly limit the number of readers with sufficient time to read all (or significant portions) of it. We want to give everyone interested a chance to participate.
So, why not spread out the reading across several meetings? The idea was to discuss meeting frequency and rough reading volume at the first meeting, in order to give people a chance to weigh in with their preferences, so it feels a little weird to make the decision of how to split up the book beforehand.
What now?
Given that The Tyranny of Structurelessness received almost the same number of votes, but is much shorter (it's an essay; you can find it here), let's read that first. In return, assuming people don't change their minds, we can read Designing an Internet second, over as many meetings as people feel comfortable with.

Happy reading!
